A little more about me

My therapeutic career began working with young people and their families within crisis intervention for Social Services. After doing this for nearly a decade, I retrained as a psychotherapist. Since then I have gained extensive experience both in clinical placements and in private practice.

I have a special interest in the mind/body connection and the impact of stress and trauma on the body. I remain immersed in growing my skillset and knowledge base to best meet the needs of my clients as they arise. I hold in mind that the complexity and beauty of the human make-up is that it is ever-changing and therefore remain committed to learning for the sake of my clients and for my own.

I am South African and moved to the UK in my 20’s. After a couple of decades in London, I moved with my young son and partner to Devon and spend as much time as I can on the moors, by the river and the sea.

I see clients in person in Totnes and online.

What happens in therapy

During our sessions we will work collaboratively to identify and and reflect on your presenting problems and how these are impeding on your ability to fully engage and flourish in your life. Together, we will create a treatment plan to most effectively address these problems, one which will connect you with your values and the things that you most long for and love in your life. We will explore belief systems and ways of thinking and behaviours that perpetuate self limiting patterns and painful ways of being. During the process, you will notice things begin to shift as you become more empowered to respond differently to the circumstances of your life. Importantly, you will learn skills that will serve you long past the therapy room.

Sessions are relaxed and informal and you are certainly not expected to do all the talking. There will be plenty of dialogue and I am here to to guide the process and offer you a non-judgemental space to explore your inner and outer world. You will gain tools that you can best use to move towards the life you love. I am trained in a number of approaches which are evidenced to compliment and support each other. This allows me to be creative in how I formulate treatment plans to your individual needs.

These approaches include Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy (MBCT), Polyvagal Theory, Hypnotherapy, and the Safe &Sound Protocol (SSP).

My work is always trauma informed.
